Christopher Meehan of Golden, Colorado has become the first recipient of the newly established, Elaine Hansen COSGC/NASA Summer Internship Award.  Mr. Meehan is currently a Junior in the Engineering Physics (BS) and Electrical Engineering Systems (MA) programs at Colorado School of Mines.  He will receive a summer position at a 10-week internship at either the NASA Academy or the Goddard Space Flight Center Student Internship Program.   The award includes roundtrip airfare, room and board, and a stipend.

The Summer Internship Award is a new initiative of COSGC.  Students participating in COSGC programs at affiliated campuses compete for the position.  Applicants are judged on their leadership experiences, academic performance, and work on prior COSGC space projects. The internship is a chance for students to work side-by-side with NASA scientists and engineers, while becoming familiar with the Nation’s Space Program and gaining valuable research experience.  The award is named for Elaine Hansen, the first director of COSGC.
