    Goddard Space Flight Center:

    http://www.gsfc.nasa.gov

Goddard's role as a leader in technology and science is as alive today as it was in 1959 when Explorer Vl, under Goddard project management, provided the world with its first image of Earth from space.
Goddard is the lead Center in NASA's Earth Science Enterprise (ESE), which is NASA's long term, coordinated researcheffort to study the Earth as a global environmental system. The Earth Observing System (EOS) is the centerpiece of the Enterprise and is managed by Goddard. EOS features a series of polar orbiting and low inclination satellites for global observations of the land surface, biosphere, solid Earth, atmospheres and oceans.
Goddard managed the highly successful first servicing mission of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) in December 1993. The mission to correct the vision of the telescope's optical components, was described as the most challenging satellite servicing mission NASA has ever attempted. Goddard is also the home of the Space Telescope Operations Control Center (STOCC). The STOCC is the nerve center for HST where all commands for the telescope originate. From this location, project managers and engineers control the observatory, retrieve data, and maintain an around-the-clock vigil of HST. The health and safety of HST, efficient operation and flight system engineering of the observatory also are the responsibility of Goddard. The Space Telescope Science Institute, a user facility where the scientific observing program is formulated on behalf of the astronomical community, is likewise managed by Goddard.
Goddard is also responsible for the procurement, development and verification testing of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES). GOES is a geostationary weather satellite system developed and launched by NASA for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The latest and most sophisticated satellite, GOES-L (11), was launched in May 2000. GOES provides atmospheric image, temperature and humidity profile, wind velocity data and severe storm coverage of the Earth's western hemisphere. NASA and NOAA are in a cooperative program to continue the GOES system with the launch of new generation GOES spacecraft throughout the decade.

    Jet Propulsion Laboratory:

    http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/

A new generation of space missions to explore the solar system and the universe beyond is unfolding at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The American space age began January 31, 1958, with the launch of the first U.S. satellite, Explorer 1, built and controlled by JPL. In the four decades since then, JPL has led the world in exploring all of the solar systems known planets, except Pluto, with robotic spacecraft. The tools developed at JPL for its spacecraft expeditions to other planets have also proved invaluable in providing new insights and discoveries in studies of Earth, its atmosphere, climate, oceans, geology and the biosphere.
Entering the new millennium as the 21st century begins, JPL continues as a world leader in science and technology, breaking new ground in the miniaturization and efficiency of spacecraft components. At the same time, the Laboratory is pushing the sensitivity of space sensors and broadening their applications for a myriad of scientific, medical, industrial and commercial uses on Earth.
JPL is a federally funded research and development facility managed by the California Institute of Technology for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

    Lockheed Martin:

    http://www.lockheedmartin.com

The sky's not the limit at Lockheed Martin, where we're helping our customers turn vision into reality with critical space missions. We're harnessing the power of space with capable, efficient and cost-effective systems to help businesses and governments, citizens and entrepreneurs, scientists and peacekeepers move our world from what is, to what can be.
Lockheed Martin capabilities address the complete range of space systems requirements including launch services; the design, manufacture and integration of on-orbit systems; and spacecraft operations on the ground. The goal: An integrated approach with a commitment to performance that provides assured and reliable access to space, and focuses on cost effective solutions.
At Lockheed Martin, we bring the advantages of space-based systems down to Earth. Breakthroughs in telecommunications, navigation, remote sensing, space transportation, and planetary explorations are changing the way we talk, see, think, work and live.
Examples of critical missions our space systems and technologies support include:
    • Support to the human space flight program
    • Orbiting observatories and telescopes that extend the field of vision to the very origins of life
    • Critical national security payloads that gather intelligence and provide protected connectivity
    • Sophisticated spacecraft that capture high-resolution images and relay information back to Earth
We realize that for our customers, critical space payloads represent their future. When it's time to put their future into orbit, we only have one chance to get it right. From national security to telecommunications, weather forecasting to planetary exploration, every mission is critical. Our customers are relentlessly focused on their missions. And so are we.

    Starsys Research:

    http://www.starsys.com/

We are a design, engineering, and manufacturing company, located in Boulder, Colorado, that provides mechanical systems to the aerospace industry.
Founded in 1986, we have developed a reputation for outstanding performance, providing mechanical systems, structures, and mechanisms that open, close, release, and move components on a spacecraft. We are known as the company to go to for motion-control actuators, cover systems, deployment systems, and separation systems.
People choose to work with us because they know, either from other customers or from past experience, that we are the best in the business. With the diversity of our technology base and our innovative approach to problem solving, we deliver solutions that meet our customers' needs for performance, schedule, and cost. We work closely with our customers to ensure that we provide exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
From initial concept through flight certification, our facility has the machine shops, clean rooms, and environmental testing areas required for the specific demands of the aerospace industry. Our mechanisms have flown on more than 200 spacecraft, with 100 percent operational success.
We are experts in our industry, and we strive to be innovative, personal, and professional. We attract the best and the brightest engineers, technicians, and machinists because our work environment is both challenging and fun. Our customers tell us that when they work with us, they "become" a part of our entrepreneurial culture.
Our work is about using our heads, our hands, and our hearts. Because we are extraordinary, our results are extraordinary.

    Xilinx:

    http://www.xilinx.com/

While the rest of the industry was moving towards layoffs and shaking-off excessive inventory, Xilinx was busy innovating, collaborating, and introducing new products to market. Unlike many of our counterparts, Xilinx viewed the downturn as an opportunity to focus on research and development, streamline operations, and deliver new products that would change the FPGA landscape.
This last year, Xilinx decisively separated itself from our competition. For the first time in our history, we secured over 50% of the PLD market share and are bigger than all other public PLD companies combined. We avoided layoffs and were ranked by Fortune magazine as the sixth best company to work for.
Through the power of innovation and partnerships, Xilinx also took the FPGA-based value chain to a new level. By teaming with technology leaders in silicon fabrication, design automation, system level tools, IP, and design services, we delivered a complete value chain and strengthened our position as a strategic partner for our customers. Delivering this complete value chain enables the fastest innovation while reducing total development and system costs for our customers. It also reduces time to market and increases time in market for our customer's products.
This unique work environment has resulted in breakthrough technology, marketing and community achievements. For example, Xilinx continues to support local schools through our Stock for Students program and made a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross. Also, Xilinx was the first semiconductor company to simulcast training in North America and Europe through industry events like Programmable World 2002.
With a combination of innovative products, world-class partners, inspired employees and the recognition of the balance between business and community, our clients have taken Xilinx solutions, management, and employees to heart. This is a reminder that good people ultimately do come in first when they are inspired and empowered to be leaders.
